Many employees think that superannuation provides enough insurance cover, but does it really? While there can be advantages in arranging insurance through your employer’s superannuation plan, there can also be disadvantages. It is too important an issue to leave to chance, so here are some of the facts.

On 5 July, the findings of the Cooper review were released to the Federal Government on its review into superannuation. The purpose of the review was to provide recommendations to increase efficiencies reduce costs and increase performance of funds.

The Minister for Superannuation announced that the Government will respond to the report with 4-8 weeks (hopefully before any election is announced!).

The review announced 2 major items, being MY SUPER default fund and SuperStream which is a processing/efficiency initiative.

Congratulations from the partners and staff at LBW to the following clients who recently won a category of the 2010 Geelong Business Excellence Awards:
  • Gartland Real Estate – Category and Overall Business of the Year Winner
  • La Madre Bakery – Category Winner
  • Hunter Cuthill – Category Winner

Gartland Real Estate

Gartland real estate logoBob and Phillipa Gartland and their team at Gartland Real Estate have really proven their slogan to be true “Nothing is impossible”. This was the first year that Gartland Real Estate entered the Business Excellence Awards and to win the Commercial Services 16+ employees category award is a great effort but to win the overall business award is exceptional.

With one of the highest marks ever in the Awards 25 year history, it just proves what a wonderful and exciting business that Bob & Phillipa have at Gartland Real Estate. The quality of businesses this year was exceptional with any of the major finalists potentially taking out the award in previous years.

La Madre Bakery

La Madre Bakery logoFollowing very close behind Gartland Real Estate was La Madre Bakery who finished up winning the Medium Business (16 to 35 employees) category award and was also a finalist for the outright award.

As the chairman of the judging panel stated, La Madre Bakery would have won the outright award in any other year due to the high marks it received in the judging process.

I am sure Tez and Anna will enter again in future years and come away with the major award which will be a great reward for the boutique sour dough bakery who are very sustainability minded with a state of the art bakery (even if they don’t make scones!)

Hunter Cuthill

Hunter Cuthill logoHunter Cuthill won the New and Emerging Business Award for the 2nd year in a row.

This is a well deserved reward for 2 guys setting up a Land Rover & BMW servicing business, which focuses on full independent servicing, state of the art diagnostic equipment and prides itself on customer service.

I am sure Adam & Gordon will agree that the experience of entering and getting a fresh pair of eyes looking at their business has certainly helped achieve some of their business goals over the past 2 years.

Special thanks also goes to them for acknowledging LBW’s efforts in helping them achieve their goals in their acceptance speech.
